SJ-122 Edge / Line Position Controller System

The SJ-122 is a high-speed intelligent EPC system designed for precise edge, line, and center guiding in roll-to-roll production. It combines advanced control logic, brushless servo driving, flexible sensor options, and reliable industrial protection to help improve web alignment accuracy and production stability.

Equipped with a 32-bit high-speed CPU, variable PI control algorithm, 0.5ms ultra-fast response, and 12-bit AD high-precision sampling, the system delivers faster and more accurate web correction than traditional controllers.

Three Guiding Modes

Sensor Options

US-400S Ultrasonic Edge Sensor

Suitable for transparent films, reflective materials, non-transparent films, paper, and other web materials that require stable non-contact detection. It is an ideal option for applications where photoelectric detection may be affected by material color, transparency, or surface reflection.

PS-400S Photoelectric Edge Sensor

Suitable for standard edge guiding, printed line tracking, and general roll material detection. It provides fast response and precise signal feedback for common printing, packaging, slitting, and rewinding applications.

Working Principle

During production, the sensor continuously detects the web edge, printed line, or center position. When the material deviates from the target position, the SJ-122 controller processes the signal through its intelligent control algorithm and sends correction commands to the brushless servo actuator. The actuator then moves the guiding mechanism through the precision ball screw to keep the material aligned during roll-to-roll operation.

Basic Functions & Compatibility
What guiding working modes does this controller support?
It supports three working modes: left edge guiding, right edge guiding and center guiding. Users can select the proper mode according to different web processing requirements.
What sensors can be used with this controller, and what applications are they suitable for?
The controller is compatible with photoelectric and ultrasonic sensors.
  • Photoelectric sensor: Suitable for edge tracking and line tracking of transparent or opaque film, with a detection accuracy of 0.05mm.
  • Ultrasonic sensor: Not affected by material transparency. It is suitable for non-breathable materials such as film and paper, and does not require manual calibration.
What are the main advantages compared with ordinary EPC controllers?
This controller is equipped with a 32-bit high-speed CPU and a variable PI algorithm without overshoot. It provides 0.5ms ultra-fast response and 12-bit AD high-precision sampling. When used with a brushless servo motor, its guiding accuracy and response speed are much better than traditional 8-bit models. It also supports multiple material parameter storage and bus networking.

Operation & Parameter Settings
Is automatic stroke measurement required for first-time use? How should it be operated?
Yes. Automatic stroke measurement is required after first installation or after replacing the actuator. In manual mode, press and hold the center-return button for 3 seconds. The system will automatically detect the limit positions at both ends. After successful measurement, it will automatically return to center. The result is permanently stored, so repeated measurement is not required during normal use.
Does the photoelectric sensor need calibration? How is it done?
Yes. Enter the detector setting menu and select the photoelectric sensor type. Then perform photoelectric calibration: first remove the material and confirm, then completely cover the detection area and confirm again. The ultrasonic sensor does not require calibration.
How can I adjust the system if the automatic guiding direction is reversed?
In automatic mode, press the “Direction +” button on the panel to switch polarity directly. You can also enter the forward / reverse setting interface in the menu to modify the direction.
How should I adjust the controller if the material oscillates during guiding?
Properly reduce the P, or proportional, coefficient and increase the I, or integral, coefficient. You can also increase the “dead band” value to eliminate false actions caused by curled edges or burrs until the system runs stably without oscillation.

Installation & Wiring
What is the power supply specification of the controller?
The controller supports a wide AC165-264V power input, which is converted to DC24V through the power adapter. Do not connect high-voltage AC power directly to the controller power socket.
What is the function of the external MC1 terminal?
MC1 is the run enable terminal. Automatic control can only be enabled when MC1 is connected to the common terminal MC. It can be connected to an external button for external start and stop control. The controller can also be set through the menu to define the status when MC1 is disconnected, such as stop or center return.
Does this controller support PLC networking control?
Yes. It comes with a standard RS485 interface and supports the Modbus RTU bus protocol. It can be connected to PLCs and HMIs for networked control.

Troubleshooting
What may cause the panel to show nothing after power-on?
This is usually caused by abnormal power supply. Check the power wiring and the power adapter, and make sure the input voltage is within the AC165-264V range.
What should I do if the system reports a motor jam?
First check whether automatic stroke measurement has been performed. If not, repeat the stroke measurement procedure. If the alarm still appears, check the mechanical structure and the screw rod for foreign objects or jamming.
What should I do if photoelectric sensor calibration fails?
Check whether the sensor wiring is secure, clean dust or stains from the detection window, and then recalibrate in the correct order: calibrate the light color first, then calibrate the dark color.
Why does the controller not guide in automatic mode?
First confirm whether the MC and MC1 terminals are connected. If they are not connected, the automatic indicator will flash. Then check whether the sensor type selection and calibration are correct, and whether the equipment has triggered the stroke limit.
